The Reminder
By Feist

Well I just completed the last few steps for SacPD, Deputy Chief's interview, Pschological examination (which was a horrible experience), medical screening, and passed. I'll be slated for the January academy (which was bumped up from November.) The extra month and a half will give me more time to work on pushups and running, which I'll be doing plenty of for the 6 month period. I also accepted their invitation to work at the station as a pre-hire in November. I'll be working 4 days a week and my fridays will consist of excercises preparing me for the academy. I'm extremely excited because it was a lot of work to get to this point and hopefully everything works out.

Just came back from a 3 week trip with Xuong and Eddie to Hong Kong and Japan. We stayed in Hong Kong for about 6 days and Japan for nearly 2 weeks. In Hong Kong we stayed at Eddie's aunt place and then we stayed at his uncle's place in Macau (which is about a 45 minute ferry ride away.) In Japan, Xuong and I stayed with his host sister's Saori's family for 2 days. We then went to Shin-Osaka Youth Hostel where we stayed for a week. We finished off our vacation with a few days in Tokyo. During our time there we hung out with Xuong and Eddie's Japanese friends: Aki, Hitomi, Tomomi, Riyo and Sachiko. I'm not the biggest fan of travelling, but I had a really good time. My only complaints...Asia is hot as hell this time of year and I broke the LCD on my camera.

Hong Kong/Macau observations:

1. Humid as hell and smells like crap. However unlike the Japanese, they're willing to blast their A/C everywhere.

2. Smoking is pretty much banned everywhere except inside your house but everyone still does it.

3. I was extremely dissapointed with the girls out in HK. Not as many lookers as I expected.

4. All the dudes look  the same. 110lbs dripping wet with girly hair.

5. The Pizza Hut in Macau was mad baller! They had things like reservations, a VIP club, and the waiters takes our orders on handheld electronic devices. Food-wise they had things like escargot, raw salmon and fancy looking european dishes.

6. There are more scooters then cars, and driving/traffic is crazy. Forget about 2 seconds of seperation between vehicles, it's more like 2 feet.

7. Saw a C6 Z06 in Macau. Damn thing probably costs 150k out there.

Japan observations:

1. Not quite as humid but the sun is beating down on you constantly. Not nearly as liberal with the A/C.

2. Lots, and I mean lots of hot girls. I was extremly suprised seeing how the Japanese girls out here are pretty beat. You can't go over a minute without seeing someone cute/hot.

3. Like the Dave Chappelle Prince skit...all the dudes that look the most like girls got the chicks. If you aren't wearing skin-tight jeans and rockin a Bon Jovi haircut, you won't be getting any girls. An average guy like me wouldn't get shit out there.

4. Some things are retardedly expensive out there. Cup o Noodles, the same exact one they have out here for 10 cents costs $1.50. Are they shipping the damn things to the US and importing them back or something??? Car audio is nearly twice as expensive, even Japanese companies like Pioneer and Alpine. Music CDs are $30, DVDs are $40 and Blu-Ray discs are $80.

5. Jack Bauer and 24 is popular out there. Ads everywhere, toys, commercials, etc. Season 6 boxed set is $200.

6. Sachiko thought I was Mexican. She also said I looked like an actor from Armageddon. She meant Ben Afleck but I think Steve Buschemi is more accurate.

7.Cars absoultely suck out there. Everybody drives a tiny econobox. We saw maybe 3 fixed up cars out there.

Found a killer deal on wheels with tires, and had to jump on it. A guy on the vette forums was selling his set of lightly used BBS RS-GT wheels with Avon Tech M500 tires and pressure sensors for $2k off retail. The tires only had 1200 miles on them, and the wheels were spotless. I was initially going to just buy some el-cheapo wheels and tires, but I realized I would be only s pending around $300 less. No sense buying cheap casted wheels when I could get quality forged wheels for just a little bit more.

Mega Update Time!!!1!!1?!

Figured it was time for a legitimate update. Well I officially graduated CSUS with a BS degree in Criminal Justice. I finished with a 3.3 GPA and a 3.0 cumulative (thanks CRC.) Commencement was at Arco Arena and I had two surprise last minute attendees; Jerry and my cousin Daniel (who just flew back into the country the morning of my graduation.) Thanks for coming guys!

Went to the bay area last friday to visit my relatives. Plus my cousin Nikki just flew in from Indiana with her kids Danyelle and Candice. I also got to see my cousin Elaine's 8 month old son Olivier, and my cousin Daniel's 4 month old son Jacob. Olivier has huge bulging eyes that put mines to shame.

Came back today to make it to my sister and cousin Nina's high school graduation. Saw Trung and his family there, Linda with Dave and Yoshi, and Vinh with the school band.

For those wondering about my progress with Sacramento Police Department, here's an update...

So far I've completed:

  1. Written Exam
  2. Oral Board/ Panel Interview
  3. Essay + Questionnaire
  4. Background Packet
  5. Background Investigation
  6. Polygraph
  7. Physical-Agility Test
  8. Ride-Along

My ride-along was awesome. My ride-along officer told me that the day was fairly uneventful, but I beg to differ. Although it was hardly action packed, I had an absolute blast. Running a Code 3 (lights/sirens/full speed) is insane, and although the cruisers are dog slow, the dump of adrenaline blasting down a residential at 70mph is crazy. While sitting inside the cruiser, the whole world looked completely different; it was almost surreal. People also kept thinking that I was a cop. One individual asked why I got to wear the relaxed uniforms, while a female suspect in the back of our cruiser kept on asking me questions that I didn't have the answers to, so I just kept my mouth shut. The ride-along esentially solidified my desire to become a police officer. Different, exciting, and a great sense of job satisfaction.

Right now I’m waiting to see if I get authorized to proceed with the process and get a Chief/Deputy Chiefs panel interview. If I do get one, and pass that, then I’ll get a conditional job offer as long as I pass my psychological evaluation/interview and a medical/drug test evaluation. If everything goes well then I can look forward to attending the grueling (but highly ranked) 6 month long SacPD Academy starting in November. It’s been a long and extensive process and I would hate to go through all of this again; so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
